On the 27th of May 2024, NamNet was officially launched in Windhoek, Namibia. The Constitution was signed and the Chairperson, gave his inaugural address.
In attendance were representatives of the seven founding members of NamNet – the Namibia Labour Organisation (NANLO), the Namibian Association of CBNRN Support Organisations (NACSO), the Namibian Chamber of Environment (NCE), the National Federation of People with Disabilities (NFPDN), the Nutrition and Food Security Alliance of Namibia (NAFSAN), the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), and the Trade Union Congress of Namibia (TUCNA). These founding members collectively represent 1150 member organisations, which in turn represent many thousands of Namibian people.
The launch was the result of a process of over one year, during which members of an Interim Working Committee deliberated on the function and purpose of NamNet, as captured finally in the Constitution.
The Chairman noted the key role that NamNet would play to facilitate engagement with the Namibian Government on key matters, such as drafting National Development Plan 6, reporting on Namibia’s progress towards global Sustainable Development Goals, and other key political and socio-economic processes that are in the near future for Namibia.
The Chairman explained the role of NamNet and what it seeks to achieve, along with the relationships it seeks to build within civil society and between civil society, state institutions, funding agencies, and the media.
